A blog about films. Not celebrities. Not (necessarily) reviews. More likely just assorted news, and my deranged ranting.....

Could the Avengers save SuperFilms?

May 6th 2008 02:33
Just a quick follow up to my last post until I post something slightly interesting.

I saw Iron Man over the weekend. It rocked. One of the best superhero movies I've seen, exactly what you want out of most comic book movies - action, comedy, but most of all fun. Better than Superman Returns, Spiderman 3 (and probably 2 also), (both) Alien vs Predator, and most other similar movies I can think of. It may have even rekindled my waining faith in Comic Movies (see this post for details).

But the recent news from Marvel is that more movies are coming. I'm still really anxious. I just can't see Thor or Captain America working that well. I mean I'm still going to see them, I think they are damn cool characters, but I"m worried that they may fail, ala the original Hulkmovie (it's a guilty sin, but I kinda enjoyed that one).

I don't know who most of these people are...

The other announcement is that they are planning an Avengers movie. That, on the other hand, could be awesome. For those who haven't been wasting their time looking at wikipedia pages regarding superheroes, the Avengers are a super team with Iron Man, Captian America, Thor, the Hulk, and a couple of others I can't remember off the top of my head (possibly Wolverine??). That could be really cool, assuming they set origin stories up properly and allow for it in the original films. But, bloody hell that will have an acting budget the size of Swaziland's GDP. Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Edward Norton (the Hulk), maybe Hugh Jackman, whoever they get to play Cap Am and Thor, not to mention the rediculous special effects its bound to have.

In sum, hell yes.

Hey, you never know. The X-Men films were very popular. Expensive cast.

But . . . are the Avengers that interesting? Especially when Hulk is constantly CGI.
