Iron Sky - The Return of the Space Nazi’s
May 21st 2008 02:17
I’m not exactly sure how I stumbled onto this, but it looks like it could be excellent. Iron Sky is from the Finnish filmmakers who brought us Star Wreck. Which I’ve never seen. If anyone has I’d love to hear opinions about it.
Iron Sky looks like its bringing back all those great fears and conspiracy theories from the 60s through to today, that the Nazi’s had somehow got into space and are planning to conquer the world in an attempt to start the Fourth Reich. Sounds like a right laugh to me. Well I assume it’s going to be a comedy, although I guess a Sky Captain style vaguely serious movie could also be cool, with modernised 40’s technology, mixed with Nazi occultism. Like some kind of Fallout / Wolfenstein love child.
Some of the ads on the website are fantastic. Made in a World War 2 propaganda style they seem to ooze tongue in cheek excellence. Between ‘The Space Huns are coming. We must safeguard are culture’ and ‘Kick the Space-Hun where is hurts’ I can’t decide which is my favourite. I think I just like the term Space Hun.
The company behind has a website at www.wreckamovie.com which appears to be attempting to build a user generated, collaborative movie community. An area where people of all walks of life can help create professional films. Wow! Certainly ambitious, but potentially genius.
